WORK

Museum world

Brief:

Museum World (working title) is an online video game that blends claymation, 2D collage, and recorded audio to explore a creature’s intriguing visit to a museum in order to retrieve their family’s precious artifacts. Players can explore ever-changing rooms within the museum, partake in mini-games, and bump into other museum-goers. The museum is designed to be modular and to have guest artists designing a rotation of exhibits.

The game is under development.

Team:

The team is made up of two visual artists and an audio producer. I’ve been working with them on and off to help them with their technical decisions and to build a technical foundation that they can code on top of.

Developing for Museum World has been a blend of creativity and technical challenges that I’ve had a lot of fun with.

  • Artistic Integration: Working closely with the artists, we’ve seamlessly build a series of tools to convert images of claymation and 2D collages along with recorded audio into video game assets. I have worked on building custom game objects on top of Phaser JS that allow us to blend and animate claymation in the game.

  • Backend Development: I’ve set up the game’s backend functionalities, enabling features like player data storage and game state management. Recently we’ve started to discuss multiplayer interactions.

  • Museum Exploration: Together, we’re designing and building out various rooms within the museum, each offering distinct mini-games and interactions. These rooms are designed to challenge players, offer rewards, and enhance the oddness of the museum experience.

Toolset:

  • FE: Typescript with Phaser3.
  • BE: Node.
  • Artistic Tools: Claymation, 2D collage software, and audio recording equipment.
